tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-46512961391057524762024-03-05T01:42:57.204-08:00Hola, Hola!¡Hablemos Español!
Let's Speak Spanish!
Bienvenidos a mi página de español 2011!
The expectations in the Spanish class from 1st-4th grade are simple; pay attention, participate, follow directions, follow the rules of the classroom, and be respectful.
The routines in the classroom will help reinforce Spanish vocabulary. Repetition is key while teaching a second language, and we will be doing so in a variety of ways. Stay tuned!Hola Hola!http://www.blogger.com/profile/17402074270290487214noreply@blogger.comBlogger33125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4651296139105752476.post-52442589884703838832012-10-03T09:44:00.001-07:002012-10-03T09:44:07.723-07:00

Well, Every Day Spanish in 3rd and 4th grade is in full swing. The kids are settled into a routine, and I am "Speedy Gonzalez" keeping up with their energy and enthusiasm.

We started the year with introductions and greetings. Question words such as ¿Qué? (what?), ¿Quién? (who?), ¿Cómo? (how?), etc., were used in our introductions by asking each other questions such as, ¿Cuál es tu color favorito? (Which is your favorite color?). Baby steps to what will become a full-year experience on learning to converse in Spanish.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), this week and in the weeks to come, the students will be researching a Hispanic personality who has made a positive contribution to the United States.

3rd Grade:

The students will be paired to become a team where one person will be the "reportero/a" and the other the "Famoso/a Hispano/a". The reportero/a will ask the questions while the "Famoso/a Hispano/a" answers. Props will be expected in order to make the experience more memorable (not to mention FUN).

4th Grade:

Each student will become a "Famoso/a Hispano/a". They will research information using the questions learned. Again, props will be expected to aid in the presentation, while making it fun and memorable.

One of the on-line sites the students will be using is www.infoplease.com. Mrs. Smay is also helping put together a collection of books that will help them find information as well as allowing the students to use the computers in the library simultaneously. I will be recording their presentations which I hope to be included in their digital portfolios by the end of the school year.Hola Hola!http://www.blogger.com/profile/17402074270290487214noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4651296139105752476.post-79361189915167181282012-02-13T06:03:00.000-08:002012-02-13T07:41:26.643-08:00Esta Semana en la Clase de Español...
Feliz Día de los Enamorados

This week we are talking about who we love..."Yo amo a..."
The students are all making Valentine cards where they have to write who they love in Spanish...if they do not know how to write it, they must ask in Spanish ¿Cómo se dice...? (How do you say?) or ¿Cómo se escribe...? (How do you write/spell?)

Due to time constraint, there will not be enough time for all the students to read their cards out loud to the class. So they have had to ask for what they need. For example..."necesito papel blanco para cortar el fantásma" (I need white paper to cut the ghost)...this is also the word we use when we need help at calendar..."necesito ayuda" (I need help)...or when trying to tie a shoe lace (for the younger ones :-) )

They don't know it but they are conjugating a verb. They had to ask for specific things during the project, which gave everyone the opportunity to speak Spanish. It is impressive to see how quickly the 4th graders can get through this exercise. Several of them did not even need to look at the board to know what to say!

2nd graders art project resembled that of the 3rd graders...they had to come to me individually and tell me what they needed, but at a slower pace. 1st graders were not left behind with an art project.
